The building, built in 1880 and 1916, was originally the Sanctuary Methodist Church. George Rowan bought the former church when it became available and converted it into a squash facility which includes 2 international singles courts, one doubles court, men's and women's locker rooms and several social areas as well as a small equipment shop. Over the years many changes and improvements have been made, such as converting the original hard ball singles courts into international courts and installing optional heat in the courts.

One of the things which makes Gwynedd Racquet Club unique is that it is member-owned and operated. The atmosphere is very low key and extremely friendly. As a member club of both the Philadelphia and United States Squash Racquets Associations the members participate in inter-league play and intra-club tournaments.

The annual membership fee is very reasonable without any additional court fees. Entry is by individual code numbers entered into a keypad at the door. Reserving court time is done through an internet based system called ReservationTimes.com
